About Kevin Bracken
Owner, Bracken Handyman Service — Placerville, CA

Today, I run Bracken Handyman Service as a professional, owner-operated handyman business serving homeowners throughout the Highway 50 corridor. I started Bracken Handyman Service not because it was part of some long-term plan, but because life pushed me to build something better for my family and my community.

I served eight years in the Air Force, where I worked in finance and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. That experience shaped the standards I still operate by today: discipline, accountability, and doing things the right way even when no one is watching. After the military, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and a master’s in Business Administration, and went on to work in higher education and later in the tech world as a senior buyer. Like a lot of people, I found myself laid off when the economy shifted.

Living up in Pollock Pines with three young kids and a wife I love, I knew I didn’t want to commute to Sacramento or chase another corporate ladder. I didn’t want to spend my life on spreadsheets while someone else raised my kids. I wanted to be present. At games. At school events. In day-to-day life.

So I started small. A basic business license, some tools, and a Facebook post. I did grunt work, side jobs, and anything that would let me make an honest living. I leaned on the skills I’d built over years of maintaining my own homes, and even further back, working with my dad as a kid. Holding the flashlight. Running wiring from one end of the house while he was on the other. Learning how to fix things, do things the right way, and take pride in the work. That foundation is still how I approach every job today. From those early days to now, I’ve always believed in doing things hands-on and doing them right.

Why I Do This Work

What I love about this job is that no two days are the same. I get to meet good people, solve problems, and walk away from a project knowing I helped someone. I take pride in what I do, and I treat every job like it’s in my own home. Sometimes even better. I vacuum. I clean. I don’t leave a mess behind or tell the customer “that’s good enough” if it’s not right. I stay until the work is done right the first time.

This business lets me live by my values. I believe in showing up, being honest, treating people with respect, and doing solid work with attention to detail. I was raised to work hard and pay attention to the small things that matter. If my name is on the job, my reputation is on the line, and I take that seriously.

I especially feel a strong connection to seniors. Many live on fixed incomes and are vulnerable to being taken advantage of, and I’ve seen that firsthand in my own family. I make a point to explain options clearly, be transparent about pricing, and never push work someone doesn’t truly need. I’ll walk someone through how to relight their water heater over the phone if I can instead of charging them for something they could safely do themselves. I believe being a good person pays back more than any invoice.

What Matters Most

I started Bracken Handyman Service in 2023 and have grown entirely through word of mouth, repeat customers, and referrals from people who trust the work I do.That trust shows up in my reviews. I now have more five-star Google reviews than any other independent handyman in the area, which tells me I’m doing something right. Not just in the work itself, but in how I treat people.

This business isn’t about chasing money or status. It’s about freedom, family, and purpose. It’s about being present for my kids and being the kind of man they can look up to. A good dad. A good husband. A good friend. I care deeply about showing up for people, both in my own family and in the homes I work in.

Bracken Handyman Service is fully insured, veteran owned, and trusted throughout the Highway 50 corridor. If you hire me, you’re hiring someone who takes pride in his work, respects your home, communicates clearly, and stands behind what he does. You’re not just getting a handyman. You’re getting someone who gives a damn about the details.
